Despite the steady growth of Students with Disabilities’ (SWDs) access to general education, there is little consensus on the effect of inclusive education and inclusive educational practices on students’ education outcomes. Given the lack of consensus in research and practice, this study utilizes state-level data to take a more systematic approach to examine different states’ trends of inclusive education over time and how the trends might influence SWD and non-disabled students’ academic achievement. The research questions guiding the study are: (1) How does inclusion vary between states over time? and (2) What is the impact of increased inclusion rates on the math and reading achievement of students with disabilities and general education students?
